Behind the song: Oftentimes, non-believers have this idea that they're supposed to have things figured out and perfected before going to church or praying to God. They think that they have to fix the broken parts of themselves first - not fully understanding that their brokenness is one of the very things Jesus wants to help them with. "You" speaks to this common struggle. The message of “You” is: Jesus loves you just as you are and wants to have a relationship with you. No perfection required. Believers can fall into a similar trap - avoiding prayer or worship because of feeling the need to “fix” or to "deal" with the baggage in their lives first.
